Fragrance Direct Christmas Party!

Last night was without a doubt one of the best Blogger events I have ever been invited to. Not only did I get to catch up with the lovely Ellie, Emma and Laura, but we got to do it over bowling, cocktails and mini burgers!

The event was held by Fragrance Direct, an amazing online retailer which caters to all your perfume, beauty and cosmetic needs, stocking over 10,000 different products! I highly recommend giving it a browse if you're stuck for some Christmas present ideas this year! The event was at All Star Lanes in Manchester, my favourite bowling alley, and we had a gorgeous private room to the side, with two private bowling lanes and a bar. There were nail technicians and make up artists on hand for us to indulge in mini make overs, and free cocktails, prosecco or milkshakes all night long. Once again, I was tortured by my wheat allergy, and couldn't indulge in any of the amazing mini-burgers or cupcakes, but I did watch, sniff and admire from a distance, and if the smell was anything to go by they must have tasted amazing!

Thank you Fragrance Direct for such a fantastic night!
P.S. I'd love it if you'd vote for my blog in the UK Blog Awards!

What I've Learnt in Nine Months of Blogging

I can't believe that nine months tomorrow marks the day that I sat down and created Amy Elizabeth Fashion! My blogging journey has been an absolute whirlwind since then, so I decided to reflect on the 5 most exciting things that have happened in that time, and the 5 best things I've learnt about blogging!

Highlights of My Blogging Journey

1. Obviously the absolute highlight has to be my Cosmo Blog Award nomination
2. Modelling for Motel Rocks in London as part of their AW14 blogger shoots
3. Reaching a collective following of over 9,000
4. Reaching 100,000 page views
5. Heading to London Fashion Week to see three different shows

Things I've Learnt On my Journey

1. Bloggers are the nicest people you will ever meet. I have made some friends through blogging that I hold extremely close to my heart. They are some of the loveliest people I have ever met and are unbelievably supportive of one another! Some of these lovely bloggers include Kemples, Nisha, Ellie and Jasmine!

2. Events can be a fantastic way to network! Not only have I met some amazing bloggers at events, but some of these events have lead to me completing internships and work placements with those companies, helping me get one step closer to pursuing a career within the fashion industry

3. Stay true to yourself. There is no point setting yourself unrealistic goals or trying to blog about things you aren't passionate about. To love blogging, you have to love what you're blogging about!

4. Being a blogger isn't 'easy'. I think there is a huge assumption that bloggers live a glamourous life and become internet sensations over night. This is not the case... an incredible amount of hard work goes into every single blog post, picture and layout! And I love every minute of it

5. A little bit of kindness goes a really long way. Ask any blogger... It can really make your day when someone takes just a little bit of time to acknowledge what you are writing about and leaves a lovely comment on your blog. Whenever I read blog posts that I love, I make sure to leave a comment behind to let the blogger know I appreciate their work. I am so grateful to every single person who reads and comments on my blog, and I hope you continue to do so!

Urban Decay Naked Basics

For a long time there has been a huge hype within the blogging world about the Urban Decay 'Naked' eye shadow palette range. Eye shadow, however, is one thing that I have never really had a particular 'passion' for, and it is not something that I use in my daily make up routine. However, I decided that after reading so many rave reviews of this product, it was something that I needed to add to my make up collection, so I found myself browsing the Feel Unique website and eventually decided to take a baby step on my journey of eye shadow discovery and purchase the 'Naked Basics' palette.

Unlike the 'Naked' 1, 2 and 3 palettes, which are each priced at £37 and contain a larger selection of nude tones, the naked basics palette is only £22 and contains six different shades, which for me seemed like plenty to get me started with! Having purchased other products from Urban Decay before, I already knew the quality of the make up would be fantastic and the packaging would be gorgeous, however, the higher price of the larger palettes initially put me off, so I decided to splurge a little less on the smaller palette to begin with.

As soon as my parcel arrived I was so excited to start experimenting and trying out the different shades! My favourite is already 'faint', a gorgeous natural brown colour, which I have been wearing every day, mixed with venus in the inner corner of my eye to brighten up the eye and give the illusion of bigger, rounder eyes. The only down side to purchasing the smaller palette is that it does not come with a brush, however I used my trusty M.A.C. eye shadow brushes (purchasable from Selfridges) to blend the shades together. The eyeshadows are extremely fine pressed powder, meaning you get a fantastic pigmentation off a very small amount of product, and the colours blend together like an absolute dream!

I have to admit, there is a small part of me which regrets not purchasing one of the larger palettes, however I think it may just make its way onto my Christmas list and I'll have to hope that Santa leaves it for me to open! I am already obsessed with the multiple colour combinations you can achieve from these 6 shades, from a more sultry smoky eye featuring 'crave', or a much more subtle day-to-day natural look using Naked 2 and WOS, so I can only imagine how incredible the possibilities must be with the larger palette! I really highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a great selection of natural shades to use on a daily basis as well as for creating a more dramatic night time look!

Leave your lovely comments below and let me know if you've tried any of the products in the Naked range! I'd also love it if you'd follow my blog on bloglovin', twitter and instagram to make sure you never miss a post!

This is what a Feminist Looks Like

I am a twenty year old university student, with a very close relationship with both my brother and my father. As a young girl, I was extremely close to my grandfather before he unfortunately passed away. I am in a happy long term relationship, where I have always felt respected and been treated equally and fairly, and some of my closest friends are male. Yet despite this, I am a Feminist.

Feminism is a word so frequently used it is hard to avoid nowadays. But despite it's frequent use, its meaning still seems to become confused and instead of representing a movement advocating womens rights and equality between the sexes, it is often misconstrued, and many would argue that the two statements above are contradictory. The point I am trying to make is that feminism is not a movement for 'men hating' females. It is a movement about equality. At the forefront of the most recent viral feminism campaign 'heforshe' is Emma Watson- also this month's cover star for the Elle Feminism issue. I admire Emma, she is truly one of my role models (and not just because of my *slight* obsession with Harry Potter), but because she is a woman who isn't afraid of standing up for what she believes to be right. However, with all this press about feminism floating around, it really got me thinking: what impact is this having on men?

We have come to live in a world where women are so used to being belittled or judged, that we no longer take time to notice when this is not the case. Only the other day I was walking down Oxford Road when I was called 'sexy' and 'a miserable cow' by two separate men at two different points on my journey. When did it become OK for a man to make a judgement about my mood or my looks, without knowing anything else about me? The unfortunate reality of this situation, however, is that I probably walked past 40, 50 or even 60 men on my journey, and only two of them disrespected me in this way. Yes, I completely agree that that is still two too many, however, the point is that it was those two that stuck in my mind, not the 58 other men who know how to behave, know how to respect women, and treated me as an equal as I walked by.

I have already admitted that I share many close relationships with men, yet somehow I still find myself being guilty of generalising and stereotyping- the very thing that feminism criticises men for doing to women. Even today I am guilty of such a generalisation. I was sat in the sauna at Manchester Aquatics Centre when a male of around 30 years old struck up a conversation with me. My initial reaction was panic. I felt uncomfortable. There I was, sat in nothing but a bikini, feeling vulnerable and insecure. I judged the man, assumed his intentions were only of a flirtatious or sexual nature, and instantly started to rationalise in my head how I could partake in the conversation without 'leading him on' or 'giving him the wrong idea'... was I to tell him I had a boyfriend? Would I been accused of flirting back if I didn't disclose this information? Was it my own fault for wearing a bikini?... and while all this was going on in my head, I didn't even take a minute to assess the truth of the situation: this man was only being polite. He was only asking questions about what I studied at university and what I did for Halloween, he was not flirting with me at all. Yet somehow, we have come to live in a society where women's instant reaction to men is fear and panic. And that is not OK.

I am completely ashamed of the assumptions I have made about men in situations similar to this one, and hope that some day I can bring a daughter into the world who will not feel intimidated or suppressed by the opposite sex. However, I equally hope that I could raise a son who won't be categorised as this intimidating suppressor.

So in our quest to find equality for all women and all men across the world, we have to remember that although it is easy to blame men for the mistreatment of women, and although some men need to change their attitude towards the female sex, as women we have a responsibility to do the same. How do we ever expect to be treated as equals, if we don't see ourselves as equals? How do we expect to walk down a dark road at night alone and be safe, if we instantly stereotype every man that we pass on this journey? And most importantly, how do we expect to be judged not by our looks, our race, our sexuality, or our gender, if we don't stop judging others by their gender too?

Maybe it's time that we stop classifying others by the actions of their peers and start judging individuals as individuals.

Sanctuary Spa Essentials

Winter is my favourite season. I love the dark evenings, crisp mornings and snuggly jumpers. My favourite thing to do in winter is come straight home from uni, get all snuggled up into my pjs and curl up in bed with some good magazines, a book and Netflix, accompanied by my chocolate of choice (currently smarties, but I'm quite partial to some giant chocolate buttons too!). The only thing that would make my winter nights better would be 1. If I was at home so I could have a nice long soak in the bath every night and 2. If the harsh Manchester wind didn't dry out my skin and leave me looking scaly and dry.

These Sanctuary products (available from Boots or Debenhams) are perfect for combatting that winter skin and keeping flaky, dry skin at bay! I gave three different products from the range a try, starting with the body scrub to exfoliate all the built up dead skin. This exfoliator is fairly rough in texture, but this is a quality that I like in an exfoliator. To be, the rougher the texture, the more skin cells it will remove, meaning smoother skin in the long run! Although it is not the most pleasant experience rubbing it into your skin, once washed off it leaves you feeling much smoother!

The second product is the Sanctuary Luxury Bath Float- a citrusy smelling product which forms gigantic bubbles in your bath. In terms of the bubble production, this product is excellent, it is makes your bath seem a bit like that massive bath in the prefects bathroom of Harry Potter (sorry for those of you who aren't Harry Potter fans, I couldn't resist slipping that reference in!) However, in terms of my likelihood to repurchase this product I would place it quite low. Yes, the bubbles are lovely and the smell is relaxing, but I have so many other 'go-to' bath time products which I just prefer... Unfortunately I'm a bit biased when it comes to bath time, and it's incredibly hard for any product to compete with my lasting favourites.

The final product is the Body Wash. The wash has an almost identical scent to the bath float, however I'd prefer to bathe in the scent than wash myself with it. The texture and consistency of the product is lovely, however, I prefer body washes that just leave a very 'clean' and fresh smell behind, rather than a heavily perfumed smell. However, if you're really keen on citrus/ orange scents then this product will be perfect for you!

Christmas Gift Ideas with Burts Bees*

Christmas is just around the corner (well, just under two months away), and as a HUGE Christmas lover, I am one of those people who likes to drag out the Christmas celebrations for as long as possible! I have already started compiling my Christmas list for this year, and have put some thought into what to give to friends and relatives this Christmas-time too, so although it is only October, I am going to share with you this lovely stocking filler idea from Burts Bees!

This cute little parcel (which comes all tied up with in the most adorable little packaging!) is the perfect present for a friend, sister or maybe even your mum this Christmas time. Winter is by far my favourite season, primarily because it's such a snuggly time of year! Only at Christmas is it socially acceptable to wear your pyjamas all day long, curl up on the sofa with candles and chocolate and other forms of food that are socially acceptable to eat out of their container, and not give a second thought to the amount of calories and/or wine being consumed. Winter is a time for pampering and relaxing, therefore this little 'Natural Necessities' collection is perfect for that!

The first product in the kit is the 'Ultimate Care Hand Cream', an essential when trying to keep that dry skin at bay during the colder seasons. The box also contains two of the famous Burts Bees lip balms, one of my favourite forms of lip care, second only to Vaseline. The lip balms include the classic beeswax lip balm containing peppermint and vitamin E, and the replenishing lip balm containing the gorgeous smelling pomegranate oil. The final item in the box is the lemon butter cuticle cream, Burts Bee's most awarded product ever! I can personally vouch for the quality of this cream as it really is an excellent nourisher for dried or chapped cuticles.

If you fancy giving this giftset or any other Burts Bees products this Christmas then head over to the Boots website to see the full selection, or find out more about the individual products HERE

Leave your lovely comments below as per and let me know if you've got anything on your Christmas wish list yet! I'd also love it if you'd follow me on twitter and instagram, and find me on depop @amyelizabethfashion where I have started selling some amazing clothes and beauty products!

Topshop Beauty- The Face Collection*

*This is a Topshop x Amy Elizabeth collaboration

For a good few years Topshop have been very high up my list of 'go to' retailers. They seem to continuously find a way of maintaining their position at the forefront of fast, fashionable, trend led fashion. I am guilty of spending a huge percentage of my money in Topshop, be it on a dress for a night out, some earrings from their extensive accessories department or yet another pair of my favorite Joni jeans. I have known for a while that Topshop also offer a range of beauty products, which I have dibbled and dabbled with over the past, but have never regarded myself a 'fully fledged Topshop beauty connoisseur'.

However, their new 'The Face' collection has completely changed my pre-concieved ideas that high-street beauty collections are not of the same quality as the luxury brands seen on the Selfridges Beauty Floor. As soon as the products arrived, I completely fell in love. I am a complete sucker for some pretty packaging, and the mirrored silver boxes that each of these items came in absolutely captivated me. I was lucky enough to be able to try out a version of every product in the range, so starting with primers, I selected the 'Airbrush Primer'.

This primer has fast become my new staple make up item. I am so in love with this product, that even though it is transparent, I would feel confident enough to leave my house with no foundation applied over the top. It quite literally 'photoshops' your skin. Visible pores are gone, discolouration is evened out and the skin is softened . The product contains photo reflecting particles which illuminate the skin, meaning you look like you have a beautifully healthy glow. This is without a doubt my favourite product from the range, and priced at £12 I think it's an absolute steal! You can purchase it for yourself HERE

Moving on to concealers, I sampled two different types. The first being the absolutely beautiful concealer palette, which allows you to filter out any blemish at all with its wide range of creamy formulas in varying shades. The best part about this palette is the translucent setting powder which means that you can be sure your makeup will stay put all day and the blemishes will stay well and truly hidden. I was also sent the standard concealer in 'light', a multi-use liquid concealer which leaves a soft focus finish and blends like an absolute dream, meaning foundation glides over with ease and doesn't leave your skin looking patchy. This works fantastically as an under-eye brightener, and contains chamomile extract which also helps to reduce puffiness! win-win! Click here to buy your concealer palette or liquid concealer

The final product is the foundation. I got shade 01, which is a lovely light shade perfect for someone with a cool complexion like me. The foundation comes with a unique 'pipette' applicator, something I've never seen before but absolutely love! The foundation is incredibly light in texture, which I find a bonus, as I hate feeling like I have a lot of really heavy make up resting on my face! This lightness means that it is very easy to build up a number of layers, allowing you to easily control the amount of coverage you wish you build up. If you want to try it for yourself you can buy it HERE

All in all, this range is absolutely fantastic, the packaging is beautiful and the coverage is flawless! Leave me your lovely comments below and let me know if you fancy trying something from this range! I'd also love it if you'd follow me on twitter and instagram to keep updated with all my latest posts.
